Girl Friends ended recently - almost a week ago in fact, but I only just got around to finishing it. As a yuri manga, it is in many ways unparalleled - it feels more real than other works in the genre, both as a result of the authors inclusion of male characters to avoid the "island of lesbians"-style all girls that is common in yuri manga and because its unusual length allows the relationship between the characters to grow much more organically. At the same time, it avoids excessive pre-relationship drama (Mangaka no Tsukurikata, maybe?) as well as post-relationship drama (Octave; definitely Octave).
Anyway, if anyone here has not at least tried to read, you should definitely check it out now that the final chapter is out. Consider it "research material".
